In the wake of tuning in to the Hank Williams Sr. box set in the Belmont University library, Josh Turner was propelled to state “Long Black Train.” After leaving the library, Josh clarifies, “Out of the blue, I got this vision of wide-open space, out on the fields. There was a train running out in the center of no place, and individuals were remaining next to the tracks, simply watching it pass by. It occurred to me that the train was a physical similitude for allurement. These individuals were remaining there, choosing whether or not to jump on it.” After returning to his room, the melody just spilled out of him.

Melodic Influences

“I think the absolute first [country music] I at any point heard was at grandmother’s home. She cherished music – The Stanley Brothers, The Osborne Brothers, a great deal of gospel groups of four and old Opry stars, Waylon and Johnny Cash.”


Joshua Otis Turner was born on November 20, 1977, in Florence, SC. Since early on, religion assumed an enormous job in Turner’s life, and he would sing lead and bass parts in the ensemble. He was a piece of the gospel group of four called Thankful Hearts, where he visited all through South Carolina. After secondary school, Josh moved to Nashville and took a crack at Belmont University.

Long Black Train

Josh showed up on the Grand Ole Opry on December 21, 1997, and when he presented a tune he had stated, “Long Black Train,” the individuals fired standing up and cheering. After he was done, the host, Bill Anderson requesting that he play it once more, and he got a second overwhelming applause.

The Opry Calls

The fall of 2007 is presumably one of Josh’s preferred occasions.
